Fun factor + low budget = on the fence

We’re very happy with our bathroom, however, we’re looking to add a bit of a fun factor to the 2nd. Fun as in color, not as in wacky. This bathroom won’t have much natural light, but will contain a nice, relatively open shower. The polished concrete floors are far from consistent due to old pours, new pours, filler, cracks, aggregate, you name it… we have it. Unlike the upstairs, the space doesn’t contain a “quiet” feel. So what to do with the bathroom? more inspiration at the jump.

OH yea. Our budget for tile is under $4.00 a sq ft. That gives us a few options that I know about. Tile from dal tile or hakatai.

Ice green from hakatai

I am super down with this feel from luce studio

… but open to this from soren rose

Color or no?

i love the multi-colored tiles — looks like pixels :)

I love your idea of infusing color with the faucet above..then if you get sick of it…easy inexpensive fix. Kinda like the white/concrete for that scenario, but all are gorgeous choices.

I love your blog and what you’ve done with your house. Before you add color to the walls in your bathroom you might want to consider the size of the room. Adding a color to even one wall could shrink the room visually. I recently remodeled a small 4 x 9 bathroom in my basement and installed white tiles on the walls and a dark green slate on the floors. The green tinge from the shower glass doors ties it all together. Overall I’m real happy with the look and keeping color off the walls definitely made the bathroom appear larger than it did before the remodel.

I also like the “quiet” design of your house and keeping with that theme is probably a smart move.
