the storage compilation

The remaining panels and doors were installed on the storage cube. Contrary to the photos, the wood really warms up the space. The storage cube consists of laundry, media, books, cleaning supplies, and basic essentials, most of which are currently stored in the kitchen and garage. Looking forward to getting the place organized.

Tube in a Cube

Oh snap! the highly anticipated arrival of the downstairs cabinets were partially installed by Bill today. I am thrilled on how it’s coming together and blown away with Bill’s craftsmanship. Bill had to deal with a lot to pull these off: uneven floors, warped walls, iteration after iteration on templates, finishes, and prototypes (! for the speakers). We finally arrived on using a CNC machine to achieve the hole pattern. The sound is clear, though, I’m no audiophile. As far as the TV, everyone needs to watch Dexter, right?

pleather happy

we picked up a happy little sofa from craigslist yesterday — it’s nice to finally have a spot to hang downstairs. I must have managed to be the first to call on the sofa… by the time I arrived to pay and pick it up, the owner had a rec’d a dozen calls… all offering a substantial amount over the $200 we paid. For a split second, I felt a little bad, but reinforced that it was going to a good home. overall, it’s a great fit. this will get us by until we can throw down for a larger sectional as originally planned. looking to do the green theme… green rug, table, dial in the upholstery on the arne norell chair, along with green art.

grillz

Did a bit of research and prototype work for my grill project. I’ve tried to balance simplicity with function. Everything from dieter rams to castiglioni for brionvega to vintage B&O. Finally arrived on the hole pattern from my macbook.

Grand Orchid

I was out of town for the event, but read that LMN architects won the grand orchid for the Conrad Prebys Music Center at UCSD. Beautiful building. Congratulations to friends jman, michael, and marcie for their orchids!

Bathroom: fixtures

The downstairs bathroom fixtures have finally been installed… still working on the mirror and vanity light.

centre street lofts preview

I snapped a few pics at lloyd’s latest project yesterday. centre street lofts is coming together very nicely. the project features 25 unique lofts for rent. most, if not all, include outdoor space, huge sliding glass doors (pocket doors!), and beautiful handmade details. my favorite detail: the curved poured concrete wall that wraps around 2 palm trees. centre street lofts is filling up quickly, but I do believe large one-bedrooms are still available. I created a small reservation web app to make the leasing process more intimate. open houses are from 10-3 on Sundays. more pics after the jump.
