surface2air

came across surface2air while looking for profiles on apple. we visited their paris studio 2 years ago and felt compelled to buy something, so thru down for a 20 euro OFR guide to paris: boutiques, cafes, and noteworthy architecture. highly recommended. but can’t find it available online.

surface2air is a creative studio/boutique operating in art, fashion and communication. 07 work for Tsumori posted above.

going back to cali

exciting to hear that aaron stoller (a childhood friend) and family are moving out to southern california after living and working in NY for the last 8+ years?!? whoa. time moves quickly. check his incredible work on backyard.

backyard consists of filmmakers in the arena of creating television commercials. mui bien

the effing apt redesign

i had been going to the apartment (online) for years, entertained by stefan and others… but sadly not a fan of their recent redesign (they’ve recently added a ‘landing’ page as an entry point for the details). I’m assuming the good people at the apartment are trying to makes things more accessible. now, I’m not advocating for a jakob nielsen makeover, but some simple mods would possibly help the cause:

while i love the fact their work is more accessible from the home page, i can’t stand the rest.

1. selection of work: great! accessible, simple.

2. some boob movie in the middle: requires you to rollover to stay focused. c’mon good people, i like to multi-task. let me hit play and go on with it.

3. 10 latest broadcasts: you make me rollover to view the detail (fine), but when i scroll down to get to the detail. it changes the detail. so you force me to rollover, rollright, rolldown, rollleft, then hope i find the actual link.

4. links: some links are white, some the apartment pink. some with >> link << or link >>>. which one is it?

5. type: small white text over a pink background with white dotted lines makes things difficult to read. i love the simplicity in your projects. why not stick to the same principle?

good folks at the apartment, i love your work, always dreamed of working with your team. but have to admit, not a fan of the redesign.

checkout checkland.

I’m not exactly sure what checkland kindleysides is all about; the website is absolutely stunning.

table manners matter…

Snap and Dine is a portable lunch setting that reinforces some of the tables manners and etiquette that have been lost over time, design by demelza hill.

sony does something right for a change…

this site is insane. both visually and technically. absolutely insane.

shelving

random from my all-time favorite: porro

thinking of simple, minimal pieces that would work well for our friends building their new place. they’ve done a nice job of documenting the progress. Pursuing Wabi. Wabi, a simple way of life, free of ornateness. The house is designed in collaboration with sebastian mariscal.

here’s a few early pics of the space. overall, we love it here, less the storage space, and the fact you have to walk up 2 flights of stairs to get the bathroom. but 9 months later, we’re used to it.
