it’s been awhile since i’ve seen these pics. i suppose the closing is now *official* with the notice of nestboutique.net expiring. we opened the store in 2004 and closed it a year later (property was converted to condos). it was an incredible venture. met wonderful people and received amazing support from the san diego community, friends and family.

i solicited the help of theapt (thanks pia) to achieve the high-gloss aliphatic urethane. it was the look i wanted, but turned out to be a mess to maintain. it doesn’t rain often in san diego, but when it did, i felt a lawsuit in the making. very slick! we took a beat-up paul mccobb desk to a local sprayer to get the high-gloss black look. in a low-traffic retail space, it made for an intimate checkout process for our customers. bags were hidden in the laser-cut steel cubes behind the desk, with the credit card processor, phone and other office goods.

nest featured mostly yarn, books and other knitting supplies, plus a few home products / accessories by emerging artists. we built each cube out varying depths of 1/4″ MDF; glued and nail gunned with the assistance of becky’s father one saturday afternoon, in a final push to get the store open (i tend to let things drag on).
